WINTER SEASON REPORT

Of the scheduled 34 matches in the 2016 / 17 winter season, PARIBC played 28, won 24, lost 4 and 6 were cancelled and 98 different members represented the Club in these matches.  Last week saw 2 matches scheduled and the results are as follows:-

On Thurs 13/04/17 PARIBC beat Kent Police BC by 20 shots, (99 - 79) in a 6 triples meal match.

Rink 2 = Margaret Jordan, Dennis Gunn, Vic Jordan = LOST 11 - 22
Rink 3 = Jim Green, Dave Sutherland, Babs Tomlin = WON 17 - 09
Rink 4 = Sue Smith, Barry Tomlin, Dave Elliott = WON 17 - 24
Rink 5 = Guinness Whatman, Tim Fletcher, Tony Jewell = LOST 13 - 14
Rink 6 = Derrick Small, Adam Meade, Lynette Stock = WON 19 - 12
Rink 7 = Pat Gunn, Allan Buchan, Dot Elliott = WON 22 - 08, (Top PARIBC rink

So here you have the last ever report, (hurrah, cry the 3 people and that dog from Strood, who actually read this rubbish!)  And the reason for the last ever report, is two fold.  Firstly the Summer captain writes his own reports, (much better than these ones!) and as he is now your new Club Captain, (a bit like Brexit, too late now, as you voted for him, ho, ho!), then he will be doing the winter reports as well  And secondly, after having my good name and my professional bowls quality, tainted, besmirched and dragged through the gutter, at the club’s AGM on Wed night, by that dodgy builder bloke, (don’t mention my bl**dy roof, ho, ho!!!), I’m off to play men’s Kent League for my new club, Sevenoaks IBC, (this season they played 26 games and lost all 26, so I’m thinking, I might get a game or two?!), as long as they can get me a parking permit for their car park which is now not free, as it has become council run and chargeable!

After numerous team changes and the club running out of tippex to constantly alter the team sheet, we played Kent Police BC in the 2nd leg of the new “Lew Hart Trophy” game.  PARIBC held a 23 shot advantage from the first leg game back in December 2016, (a match won by 106 shots - 83 shots) and this was followed up by a 20 shots victory today, (99 - 79), which meant that PARIBC were the first winners of this trophy, which has been kindly donated by 4 members of the Kent Police BC team.  Bill Duncan from the Kent Police BC gave a short, but eloquent speech, at the meal and summed up perfectly what Lew Hart and obviously, this memorial Trophy, stood for.

On rink 2, we nearly, (I did say, nearly!), saw a smile from Madge Jordan, before her and her hubby Vic, go outdoors in their quest for summer trophies, (don’t mention the Lyme Regis 2017 open, otherwise you will be there all day!).  I guess Dennis Gunn must have been kept busy on this rink, as he couldn’t eat his pudding come meal time, for which yours truly and captain Tubbs Tomlin were most grateful!.  Rinks 3,4 and 5 saw the “roses” on each rink, keep the thorns in check, but I shall leave you to work out who was the particular “rose” on each of these rinks.  And do I mean females?  Well maybe not!  On rink 5, having learnt at the AGM on Wed night, all about the terrible “bobbling” of the new green, then the worst bowler in the Club was proving this to be the case and asked if he could get the Dyson out at the tea break, but this request was turned down!  No bobbling at Sevenoaks IBC, I hear!  Rink 6 saw a nervous Derrick Small grow into the game and bowl well, the further it progressed, as he played along side his esteemed County and National team mates.  Rink 7 was loaded to the gunnels, enough said, with the Club’s Scottish overseas player, apparently just there as the eye candy, although more a thistle than a rose, we are led to believe!  Thanks to Nicola, Adrian and plethora of girls / boys in the TV lounge / kitchenette for the food and to Jackie for the bar.

On Sat 15/04/17, the match against Thurrock BC was cancelled by the Oppo as they could not raise a team.  And with that another winter season has been completed.  A most successful season on the green, but it was dominated by the sad events off the green and the loss of so many good people, which to a degree the club is still struggling to recover from, but is getting there, slowly but surely.  Thanks to all those who did their bit and more during the season, all that unseen work behind the scenes, that has to be done, to ensure the success of the Club in general, both on and off the green.  However, the usual plea is for more people to get involved, it can’t be left to the usual same old, (and not so old!), faces all the time!

27 people played 8 or more of the social games over the season, to qualify for the last ever Player Of The Season comp, (best 8 scores) and we had joint winners with Tony Jewell and Babs Tomlin, both scoring 243 shots.  So well done to them and their pics are on the relevant website gallery page.  “Guinness” Whatman was in 3rd place with 229 shots and Barry Tomlin, 4th with 226 shots.  So in the 6 years of this comp., we have had 6, (well 7, with this years joint winners), different winners, so perhaps it was a comp that did work, as all were in with a chance of winning the trophy.  And we remember all those complaints from people in the first year of it running, of them having to fork out 10p to enter it!  Hopefully someone will devise a new comp for next year onwards.

Enjoy your bowls this summer, if you play either outdoors, indoors, or even both and I look forward to playing against PARIBC for my new club, once you have sorted the bobbling green out!  If you are going to Potters with PARIBC in May, then I hope you enjoy that as well and with the number of PARIBC dream teams, (self selected or just drawn), competing, then it would be a disappointment not to see them fill a lot of the 8 quarter final places.  Finally to those 3 people and 1 dog who read the reports over the years, it has been a pleasure, to waffle on for you!

Up the Arthur!

Kind regards, from your correspondent, a non - Kent League, (both men and women’s!), player………in fact a non - bowler, full stop!
