P.A.R.I.B.C. WINTER SEASON 2016 / 17 – INTERNAL COMPETITIONS FINALS WEEKEND – SAT AND SUN 08 / 09 APRIL 2017

Last weekend’s, (April 08 / 09), unusually hot and toasty weather outside, was matched by the heat of battle inside, at the PARIBC super – mega – dome, indoor arena, as the PARIBC winter 2016 / 17 competitions reached their final stages and conclusion. See the website comps page for all the full results and the website gallery page for all the pics, (both on and off the green), in what was a very exciting and at times, tense, couple of days.

First things first and huge thanks are due to Mick Day for organizing all the PARIBC winter 2016 / 17 comps, from initial planning through to completion. A thankless and at times, onerous task that Mick fulfilled superbly and all who took part in the various comps., would like to add their own thanks, for all his hard work and effort.

Well done to all the winners and runners up, but certain names dominated the weekend’s various finals and as they say, the cream always rises and Kevin Farrell, John Lake, Patrick O’Meara and Patricia Wells, are certainly a fearsome, foursome, set of bowling individuals, you wouldn’t want to meet on, (or come to think of it, even off!), the green! The culmination was the men’s and women’s individual finals, which were as expected, close affairs. Linda Hoare came back from 15 – 20 down to win 21 – 20, against Babs Tomlin, with both ladies matching each other with some excellent shots, when the pressure was on. So well done to them both. In the men’s final, there was only one person in the club who thought that “Kevin” wouldn’t win, which was a no brainer really, as the final was between Kevin Edwards and Kevin Farrell. The latter, took a big lead early on, but then the former began to claw it back, end by end with some cracking shots to get it back to only 3 shots in it. Mr Farrell then played three delightful drawing woods, the last one, which he followed, running up the rink, all his money rattling in his pocket, (who said builders are poor?!), to stand and watch Mr Edwards last wood, fall just short and claim victory, 21 – 15. Well done chaps, a worthy final! A buffet and presentation of trophies then followed and another season was close to being put to bed, as we look forward to possible various comps. in the summer season and maybe the introduction of a mixed rinks comp. for next winter’s comps. perhaps?

Thanks to all who helped out and umpired and marked, (ask the “workplace pension monster”, Dave Hood himself, how many miles he walked, marking the Terry Richardson Trophy final!). Thanks also to Nicola and Adrian in the kitchen for all the food and to Sue Smith for the bar and all the others who assisted in various ways over the weekend to make it a success. Thanks also to John Mercer and Graham Hubbard, for taking all the photos. Equally thanks to all, well the few, same old faces, (where were the rest of you?), who came down and supported the weekend. Your presence, encouragement and good humoured joshing and banter, was very much appreciated by those taking part, proving that this is what the Club is all about.
