Cream Tea Afternoon – Sat 08th August 2026. Sat 08/08/26, saw the annual, summer season, cream tea afternoon take place, with 39 happy campers and 2 guests, turning out for what they thought would be a lazy, hazy, easy going, Sat afternoon. Two minutes into the rules and regs opening speech, of what would be happening for the afternoon and there were 39 angry and very confused patrons, who wish they hadn’t signed up!!! It was all downhill from there and only the organizer had a clue what was going on and he was quite vague in that as well…no change there then! None the less, various types of bowling, away from the norm; target mats, wrong hand bowling, oppo woods bowled, jacks up last, behind the jack to score and a variation on hundred up, were all attempted and happy to report, from the 15 ends played, there was a modicum of success…not a lot, but there seemed to be plenty of laughter to be heard all afternoon, across all rinks, so we must have been doing something right? All joking aside, huge thanks to all who turned out for the afternoon and gave it a go, because without their support and participation, then events like this don’t work, regardless of how much organization and / or planning, (or lack of?, as per today), is done. Biggest thanks as usual go to Dot Elliott, (ably assisted by Julia Edwards), for the fine cream tea and to Pam Fincher on bar duty. Dot also made a huge strawberry sponge cake, which was raffled off, (thanks to Soozie Moreton for selling the tickets), and was won by Dave Randall, so well done to him, whilst in the main raffle, Henry Longhurst won the prunes, much to the disgust of Roy Baston, who as usual had his eyes on that prize! The main result out of all that went on today, is that the Club coffers benefitted to the tune of over £400, so thank you once again to those who came along today. Your support of your Club, is very, very much appreciated! Please see the pics of the day below, kindly taken by Christine Heward and Dot Elliott.
