For the summer 2024 social match season, the Club had 26 scheduled matches, (22 indoor and 04 outdoor), but 02 indoor matches and 02 outdoor matches were cancelled, (all by the Oppo) and also 01 outdoor match was abandoned, after only one end played, due to the wet weather! Of the 21 matches played, the Club won just 06 matches, and 15 matches were lost. 82 members played at least 01 match, with 23 members playing 06 or more matches, (approx. a quarter of all the actual matches played).
The two Player Of The Season competitions are based on the total of a players best 05 scores, from all the scheduled club social matches played indoors, (so excludes the scores from any outdoor matches also played), they played during the summer season………it is not based on who has played the most matches. Thus adding a competitive element, whilst not distracting from the social nature of the matches and season in general. In both the “Player Of The Season – Total Shots” competition and “Player Of The Season – Total Shots Difference” competition, you had to play at least 05, (approx. a quarter), or more of the scheduled indoor matches, actually played and then your best 05 scores were taken………fallen asleep yet?!
Up until the last woods, of the last match of the season, Kevin – all and any 2nd hand bowls paraphernalia from anywhere, considered – Mooney, held a close, but fully deserved lead, in both comps., with his consistent form all season, (is there a better lead in the Club? Doubt it), but Austin – “FCC” – Rogerson, had gradually been pegging back this lead. And following a twist in the closing ends of the last match of the season and subsequent working out and recounting of all the facts, figures, scores and results, it meant, that Austin, pipped Kevin, to top spot, by just 1 shot and 2 shots respectively, in both comps. and so huge congratulations go to him, on becoming the summer social champion.
The pictures below, (kindly taken by Derrick Small), show the winner and runner up, with the silverware and both trophies now sit on display, in the trophy cabinet. And in recognition of not so much a key match, but more the infamous “key’s” match, one that will live long in the memory, away at Swale IBC, earlier in the season, when Kevin Mooney “lost” his keys, the match was subsequently stopped for over 5 hours, to allow us all, to search for the “missing” items, (only to find them on the seat, in the changing room, where he got changed!), leaving only time for a 1 wood shoot out, to determine the result of the match, (which PARIBC lost), then we see Kevin proudly showing off his new, (2nd hand!), miniature key ring………although the keys are missing off of this?! As such, the top 05, for both comps., are listed below:-
SHOTS SCORED:- 1st = Austin Rogerson 124 / 38; 2nd = Kevin Mooney 123 / 38, 3rd equal = Chris Lewis 116 / 29 and Deidre Williams 116 / 28; 5th = Derrick Small 113 / 29.
SHOTS DIFFERENCE:- 1st = Austin Rogerson 84 / 36; 2nd = Kevin Mooney 82 / 36; 3rd = Derrick Small 61 / 21; 4th = Glynis Whatman 58 / 20; 5th = Chris Lewis 53 / 22.
(Note: First score shown is the total of the best 05 results, second score is the best individual result.)
