For the summer 2025 social match season, the Club had 24 scheduled matches, (20 indoor and 04 outdoor) and all 24 were played, but results wise, a very poor return, saw the Club only win 05 matches and suffer 19 defeats. With numerous off green incidents seemingly dominating and taking centre stage, then the actual joys of the social side of the bowls and the bowling, against the other clubs, was greatly diminished, meaning on the whole, it was a difficult and not the most pleasant of seasons. 80 members played at least 01 match, with 25 members playing 06 or more matches, (a quarter of all the actual matches played) and hopefully all who played, enjoyed themselves.
The two Player Of The Season competitions are based on the total of a players best 06 scores, from all the scheduled club social matches played indoors, (so excludes the scores from any outdoor matches also played), they played during the summer season………it is not based on who has played the most matches. Thus adding a competitive element, whilst not distracting from the social nature of the matches and season in general. In both the “Player Of The Season – Total Shots” competition and “Player Of The Season – Total Shots Difference” competition, you had to play at least 06, (a quarter), or more of the scheduled indoor matches, actually played and then your best 06 scores were taken………are you keeping up so far?
We had a runaway winner in both competitions and this was solely down to the results in the first few games, where the rink he was playing on each time, racked up huge winning totals and big winning margins. However, consistent, relatively big scores each time he played, over the whole season, meant it was no fluke, so many congratulations to the winner, Chris Lewis. The battle for runners up spot in each comp., was more open and even a late surge from PARIBC Ladies Capt., Deidre Williams, (who does not care about such matters!), in the final 05 matches, nearly saw her take second spot. But flying in, to claim this position and certainly not under the radar, having been hovering in the top three all season, was the Club’s very own wing commander, Mike R Smith. Fully deserved and proving, like the winner, consistency, over the season as a whole, will bring its rewards. The pictures below, (kindly taken by Sue Smith), show the winner and runner up, with the silverware and both trophies now sit on display, in the trophy cabinet. This was the last season that both these trophies will be played for, as both are, (like the majority of Club patrons), being retired. Well done to all the many winners and runners up, over the years, that the trophies have been played for. As such, this season’s top 05, for both comps., are listed below:-
SHOTS SCORED:- 1st = Chris Lewis 173 / 38; Mike R Smith 132 / 24; Deidre Williams 128 / 25; Kevin Mooney 123 / 23, Glynis Whatman 121 / 32.
SHOTS DIFFERENCE:- 1st = Chris Lewis 124 / 34; 2nd = Mike R Smith 66 / 12; 3rd = Glynis Whatman 57 / 24; 4th equal = Kevin Mooney 52 / 10; Deidre Williams 52 / 19.
(Note: First score shown is the total of the best 06 results, second score is the top score, of the best 06 scores).
