Thursday 6th November
9.30am – KNOCKOUTCOMPETITION
Vic & Margaret Jordan
The last player standing knockout tournament was run by the Cliffe BC ladies ex champion and the Cliffe BC men’s current tea making champion, namely that fine couple, Margaret and Vic Jordan, (now sitting on a beach in the rain in Cyprus eating a Chrimbo pud!). A fun and very easy to understand tournament that somehow had many of the 30 plus entrants foxed and even to this day, Dave Hood who came third, still doesn’t know what he was doing! The last 2 players, (of the grand final of 5 players), fighting things out for top honours were Linda (after this week now very wealthy!) Hoare and Vic (tell me if I’m short!), Ashby. Vic set the jack and then bowled a pearler of a wood, (certainly not short), that sat only a foot behind the jack and surely no way that could be beaten we thought and so much so, that his good lady Irene had upped and left to go and spend his winnings! However, (with that bank balance and pension to top up!), Linda not only drew in between Vic’s wood and the jack but had a toucher as well and showed just what a good player she is and emerged a worthy winner. Peter Green was in fourth place, although we still can’t make out a word of what he was saying and if anybody has a Yorkshire to English dictionary handy, please can we borrow it! 5th and last place in the final went to the worst bowler in the club! Thanks to Margaret and Vic for all their hard work in organizing this and to all who took part, especially the unlucky Sandra Shepherd, whose morning ended after only 3 ends!
