30 hardy souls, (or should that be “fool hardy”?), arrived at the Club, in their Chrimbo finery, for an afternoon of so called fun and merriment, (see pics below). However, after they had perused, read and re – read, the basic rules for “Scroungers”, which was to be the first bowls session of the afternoon, then today’s official shortest day of the year, looked like it was heading to be the longest day of the year! But once they started playing all became clear, all be it the arguments over scoring continued well into the third end! That aside, I think all enjoyed the different format, so hopefully this is something that we can try again. We then sat down to be fed and watered with our Chrimbo refreshments, superbly provide by Margaret Slipper, ably assisted by Julia Edwards, so thank you muchly ladies. The winners of the spider, Alex Routen and Heather Allan were given their prizes and this was followed by the mystery raffle, (no touching or groping allowed!), which again seemed to go down well. The second half of the afternoon started with a session of behind the jack to score, bowling and this was won by the triple of Karen Evans, Tommy Evans and Colin Capeling and we finished with a session of normal bowls and this was won by the triple of Joanne Green, Roger Hemming and Alex Routen. All then departed out into the very wet, late afternoon weather, to wend their way home and the Club was tucked up for its two weeks hols. Huge thanks to all who turned up to support the day. Thanks again to Madge Slipper and Julia Edwards for our refreshments and to Christine Heward for taking the pics. Roll on Easter!
