Sat 18/07/26, saw 36 members and 4 guests, turn out for the Memorial Day for Dave Hood and for the Summer Trophy to be played for. All seemed to enjoy themselves, despite for most of the time, not having a clue what they were supposed to be doing, or indeed, what was going on. So, a normal afternoon then at PARIBC?! Even the organiser was in agreement, that he should be sacked!!!
12 teams of triples battled it out, across 18 ends, (split into 4 sessions), of different formats of bowls, (two jacks; behind the jack; target mats and almost normal bowls), moving rink after every session, as confusion was the order of the day. Somehow, out of all this bafflement and mayhem, one team emerged triumphant and theirs was a fully deserved win, as they were the only team to win all 4 of their matches played. Thus, well done to the triple of Dave Elliott, Soozie Moreton and Tom Heward on becoming this year’s champs, with the runners up being the triple of Peter Edwards, Doug Whiteoak and Madge Head.
As usual, most thanks go to all those who attended, (especially to Rose Gibson, who kindly came in at the last minute dot com, due to a sickness cry off that morning), because regardless of any so – called planning of the event, (or lack of, as per today?!), if no one supports the day, then we have no event and equally, the importance of getting monies into the Club coffers, on an otherwise blank day, cannot be underestimated. Huge thanks to Madge Slipper and Julia Edwards, for their hard work in the kitchen and for the fine tea and to Pam Fincher who was behind the bar. “Ta muchly” also to Sue Smith, who as usual, took the pics of the day, which can be seen below. Now I doubt he was, but if Dave was looking down from above, he would have joined in the laughter, at some of the efforts seen on the green today, but his main interest and focus would have been more on the sausage rolls, Jaffa cakes and the coffee & walnut cake that we had for our tea!
