Kent Invicta Triples League (Men)

Update

Time rushes by and from a successful first match win over Stonelodge we have now lost the next 3 matches. However from a club perspective it was very encouraging. I say that because after this Sundays match away at Thanet we would have played 5 matches between 12th and 27th of October. With 5 matches condensed into just 17 days it was an achievement to honour all 5 matches. Well done indeed to all that turned out for the club. A special thank you to Val Cook who helped us out by playing at Oyster.

Since Stonelodge we have lost both home and away to Swale and also away to Oyster. The scores were 81-112…73-114  and 82-105..

My pre-season optimism has been sorely tested. However the more we play these matches the more we’ll improve….so winning the league seems 2 or 3 years of determined improvement away but the only way is up. The main thing is we represent Prince Arthur as a friendly, competitive club.

So after Sundays match at Thanet our fixtures become more spread out and we have 3/4 weeks recovery time before our next match away at Whiteoak on Sunday 24th November.

Good luck to those making the trip to Thanet….sounds like the food is going to be very nice.                   Pat……Men’s Captain

Team Selection

Reports

PARIBC men v Whiteoak

On 24th November the men’s team travelled to play their 6th Invicta Triples League match at Whiteoak.

This resulted was a highly satisfying victory for Prince Arthur. We won 3 rinks each  for a 6 – 6 scoreline but we gained the extra 4 points for the highest aggregate match total…( 97 – 81 )..so a nice 10 – 6 win.

This victory was won by the efforts of all 6 rinks. Even our losing rinks contributed to the win by ensuring they made Whiteoak fight for every point. This guaranteed us the 4 points for highest aggregate total. On this occasion however we can also mention the importance of maintaining the pressure when you are on top. That is exactly what our top rink managed as they annihilated their opposition 30 – 5…so congrats to Chris Lewis, Derrick Small and Mick Day.

So the men’s team have already played 6 matches, winning 3 and losing 3….we now have a break until we host Whiteoak in the return match on January 12th.

PARIBC Men v Thanet Saturday 27th October

A great win on our travels away at Thanet IBC on Sunday 27th October.

We won 4 rinks to 2 and secured the added 4 points awarded for the best aggregate total. So a 12-4 victory in a close match. This match illustrated the truth of the saying “every point counts” because we only won the 4 points for best aggregate total by 8 points. So the fighting spirit of our 2 losing rinks went a long way to securing the victory. Our top rink consisted of Peter Edwards,  Dave Sutherland and Greg Rowe.

After the match the team and guests enjoyed a lovely meal which capped off a nice day. We look forward to the return fixture in the new year.

PARIBC Men v Stonelodge Saturday 12th October

So the season for our our men’s team in the new triples league is underway. Saturday we played Stonelodge at Prince Arthur. Some would say they could be title contenders and so to win 10-6 was a great result for us. We won 3 rinks each but we claimed the extra 4 points for having the higher aggregate total. Each winning rink is worth 2 points and therefore we won 10 points to 6.

This win highlighted the importance of……if you lose then lose by as small a margin as possible….. .Our losing rinks lost by 2, 4 and 5 points whereas their losing rinks lost by 4, 8 and 9 points thus securing the additional 4 points.

I can’t stand too many matches like that. My nerves will shred. I was glancing up and down at the scores on the rinks and there were some great battles going on. It was so rewarding watching us fighting to hold them until we finally edged home at the death. Well done to all our players and bear in mind we have other warriors waiting to do their bit in future games.

Our top rink consisted of Tommy Evans  Colin Capeling and Josh Rowe. They won by 8 points and as the last rink to finish the three of them put the last nail in the Stonelodge coffin.

A few mentions : Welcome to the two Colins – namely Medhurst and Capeling. Both  unknown quantities to me who both played on winning rinks.

Also to the playing partners of Colin Medhurst, namely Bob Bromley and skip Jim Coleman. Their rink fought back after a slow start to get us a fantastic win.

Welcome also to Greg and Josh Rowe. Greg coaches my grandson Tommy and both will be a great addition to our team.

Please note that all future games will be played having the teas and coffees on the run. We confused Gemma no end with so many finishing times…who can we blame for that …..I wonder!!

If I say “Dave Randall played” then the experienced among you will know the club is 50p richer.

I have added a “pretty” results section to the men’s board so have a gander if you wish to keep up.

Come on The Arthur– let’s give Swale a battle on Wednesday.
