On Sat night, (12/07/25), there was the very successful M&S quiz night, which was not only very well supported, but also raised just shy of £900.00, all for the club coffers, whilst there was a bar take of around £600.00. Thus a great result and many, many thanks to all those who came along. The hard work of Sue Smith, (don’t mention strawberry emojis!) and Marc Carr, (don’t mention dinosaurs!), on the night and also for all the prep work they put in, meant the event ran very smoothly. Sue was on scores duty, (say no more!), whilst Marc was the genial host and MC on the night, up, down and all round, like a jack in the box. There was a mix of easy, hard and at times, WTF questions, which saw all present have their brains well and truly tested in a thorough work out. Which can’t be bad! Other thanks are due to the fine ladies, Pam Fincher and Katie Hilder, for an extremely busy night on bar duty, to Dot Elliott as raffle meister and all those who donated raffle prizes, (sealing tape dispenser gun aside!) and thanks to those hardy few, who helped set up and clear away. The winning team, initially by small margin, subsequently now on recount, by a huge margin, were Bernie Mercer, (providing the nibbles), John Mercer (great knowledge of plugs), Patricia Wells, (nice height adjusted handwriting) and Deidre Williams, (good doodling, Star Trek info and more importantly, great ears!) and ably assisted by a plane spotter, (who knew?!), with his anorak and plastic carrier bags, having a night off from his usual pub bouncer duties dealing with the drunks! They won by 0.002765 of a point….nope, me neither, but as said, Sue was in charge of the maths! She also kindly took all the pics on the night. It was also nice to see Maureen Osborne come for the night and be back amongst the throng, even getting the Queen question right in the music round.
